sharing file-sharing

i just wanna share, i hope i wont be too much. let’s talk about music piracy. i admit that im a lover of good music. im not a musician myself, and i dont even know what good music is, but at least we all have our own version of good music rite? im currently listening to old music, im trying to widen my reference about the roots of modern music. in order to do so, im listening to ray charles, bb king, buddy guy, cream, eric clapton, etc. i know it’s not ‘old’ enough, im tryin to get into that, okay. how could i get the music? i use the privilege of file-sharing. Okay, i admit it in public digital sphere. but everyone does it, doesnt they? and i dont know that’s an act of piracy or not and (un)luckily i live in a developing world with the most diverse culture, Indonesia, where law is about how we obey it and break it at the same time; where a porn popstar is the headline news and the big corruption issues are delayed to be discussed further because people are distracted by the latest diva’s marriage. so if u wanna know whether file-sharing is a crime or not, u should probably ask Sarkozy. Thus, here’s a tips for you, for those who do file-sharing too much and feel guilty and for those of you who live in developing country and the access of good-quality-foreign-music is rare, or whoever who happens to be stuck in this page reading this writing of mine.

1. Whenever you download a song, or download an album, put it in a list, make sure you remember (that’s why I said put it n a list) the musicians.

2. Try saving your money, trust me, it wont take you anywhere but good things.

3. Check the list again, find out which musicians’ songs or albums that you’ve downloaded most.

4. Someday, yes someday or better you can decide the exact time, you are going to buy at least one original song or album from those musicians.

For me, guilt relieved. I’m still in sinfulness though.

p.s: if u think u cant do those steps given above, at least do something useful: prevent piracy. make good music. encourage ur government to support local good music. i repeat: good music.

thanks.
